As a Mechanical Designer within our Global Service Division, you will be a key driver in the evolution of our mechanical systems. Your mission is to bridge the gap between legacy equipment and future-ready innovation by supporting modernization projects, upgrades, and new builds.
You will actively refine existing designs and develop practical, high-impact solutions for complex mechanical systems. From the initial drafting of technical documentation to the hands-on excitement of testing and commissioning, you will ensure our engineering standards remain world-class. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will partner with both local and international teams to transform project requirements into robust, functional realities.
More tasks and responsibilities
- Design, develop, and improve mechanical equipment and systems, integrating new functionalities to meet evolving project needs
- Create and maintain 3D models, precise engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Drive design processes to ensure all deliverables align with strict project timelines, safety regulations, and global quality standards
- Provide hands-on expertise during commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure seamless system integration and performance
- Proactively communicate project milestones, technical risks, and solutions to internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain alignment
- Act as a technical subject matter expert for colleagues, suppliers, and clients, ensuring technical queries are resolved with precision
- Uphold industry-leading engineering practices and foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaborative problem-solving
Reporting directly to the GSD Design Team Manager. The position will be based in MacGregor’s office in Gdansk, Poland.
What you’ll need to succeed
We are looking for someone with experience in designing mechanical equipment such as winches, cranes, and other rotating or load-handling systems. You should be comfortable working with complete mechanical systems, including sizing and defining components like brakes, gearboxes, shafts, bearings, and drive systems, as well as basic calculations for torque, speed, loads, and power.
You are a proactive problem-solver with a natural curiosity for understanding the root cause of complex challenges. With a strong commitment to excellence and a meticulous eye for detail, you consistently deliver high-quality results. A collaborative professional at heart, you remain adaptable in fast-paced environments and are dedicated to the collective success of the team.
Ideally you have
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical equipment design ideally in the marine or offshore sector, or equivalent
- Practical on-site experience, such as assembly and commissioning
- Understanding of mechanical systems and kinematics
- Experience with rotating equipment and power transmission
- Ability to size and define key mechanical components
- Awareness of how design affects electrical, hydraulic, structural, and production teams
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Vault (strong advantage)
- Conversational in both written and spoken English
