MacGregor is entering an exciting growth phase. Backed by a newly established leadership team, the offshore division has been identified as a business with a significant strategic growth potential. We are now looking for a VP Concept & Technology to lead the core of the business – the team that shapes the current and the future MacGregor’s offshore technology.

This is not a traditional R&D or engineering management role. It sits at the intersection of product development and business development – a strategic leadership position where you will build the offshore technology vision, translate market and customer insight into a forward-looking product portfolio, and help solve customer challenges with MacGregor’s technology and competence. You will guide a team of highly experienced technical specialists outward – from  direct customer engagement, product development programs, business case development, and market shaping. We look for a strong leader who can build the best in class highly competent market driven technology team.

More tasks and responsibilities

• Build and own the product vision and  the offshore technology strategy, grounded in customer insight, market dynamics, and commercial viability

• Develop and evolve the offshore product portfolio through active customer and market engagement and concept studies 

• Represent MacGregor’s technology offering in customer meetings, industry forums, and early-stage engagements alongside sales teams

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of approximately 5 direct reports and 10 broader team members, fostering a collaborative, customer-facing culture

• Govern technology development programmes and R&D activities, ensuring structured innovation and disciplined execution

• Ensure technical product safety, regulatory compliance, and IP protection across the OSD portfolio

• Hold budget and result responsibility for the department and product development projects

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, Offshore Solution Division, you will be a member of the divisional management team and work closely with sales, projects, and engineering leadership on a day-to-day basis. The offshore business is headquartered in Kristiansand, Norway, however the position can also be based in other MacGregor office locations.

What you’ll need to succeed

We are looking for a leader who combines technical credibility with commercial awareness – someone who can engage confidently with deeply experienced engineers, earn their trust, and guide them towards a more customer-oriented way of working.

Welcome candidates with exposure to digital transformation or product digitalisation, business consultancy with a technical or industrial focus, international and multicultural working environments, service and operations alongside product development, or communication and marketing skills that support building a technology brand.

Ideally you have

• A strategic, commercially aware leader with the confidence to make sound decisions, challenge established ways of working, and communicate complex technology concepts to customers, executives, and cross-functional teams

• Significant leadership experience, including responsibility for senior technical professionals or leading through other managers, ideally in a transformation or growth context

• A technical foundation sufficient to engage credibly with deep specialists, combined with a career trajectory towards commercial, strategic, or business development roles

• Substantial customer-facing experience, with the ability to translate customer needs into product and technology direction

• Background in the offshore oil & gas vendor industry or adjacent heavy industries; domain-specific equipment experience is not required

• A team player who is fully committed to contribute to the overall MacGregor success

• Fluent in English, written and spoken
