Are you a detail-oriented, collaborative, and technically skilled professional who thrives on mechanical design and project delivery? We are looking for a Mechanical Designer to provide services in defined engineering disciplines to support engineering design, development, and project completion. 


As a Mechanical Designer, you will design equipment according to technical requirements defined by contracts, class rules, and MacGregor standards within given quality, time, and cost constraints. Furthermore, you will assist in technical discussions with customers and subcontractors, perform critical calculations, and ensure the technical correctness of all designs and drawings.

More tasks and responsibilities

  • Design equipment layouts, adapt concepts to contract requirements, and establish interfaces to ship or shore structures
  • Perform, collate, and archive essential calculations, including hydraulic cylinder operational pressure, buckling checks, operation sequences, and weight calculations
  • Execute detailed design, produce accurate design drawings, and create technical administrative documentation
  • Plan, follow up, and estimate design hours for allocated work, updating the Design Responsible or Design Leader.

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. The position will be based in MacGregor’s office in Japan.

What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, it is essential that you possess strong mechanical engineering knowledge and CAD skills, along with a collaborative approach to teamwork. We are looking for an accurate and detail-oriented individual who is capable of handling design planning, technical documentation, and cross-functional communication to effectively support both project teams and external stakeholders.

Ideally you have:

  • A high school diploma 
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within the marine industry
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, rules, and regulations
  • An understanding of design processes, routines, production knowledge, and installation methods and practices
  • Proficiency in using CAD software
  • Fluent in English and Japanese
