We provide sustainable cargo and load handling with a strong portfolio of products, services, and solutions to the maritime and offshore industries. Our solutions are found in over half of the world's merchant fleet.

MacGregor – Let's shape the future together

We are looking for a Data Architect to drive business results and operational excellence by architecting and building the unified data foundation that empowers our teams to turn complex, siloed information into decisive action.

As a Data Architect, you will own the end-to-end data architecture—from applying conceptual data models to our business systems to designing and delivering the physical architecture of our data lakehouse.

Furthermore, you will be deeply engaged in critical projects, ensuring our data ecosystem is integrated, scalable, and trusted, while providing direct technical oversight to data and solution teams.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Establish and operationalize the "System of Record" (SoR) mastery for critical data objects across the landscape and perform gap analysis to identify structural data weaknesses
  • Design and evolve enterprise-level semantic data models, including logical and conceptual models, ensuring a clear, holistic view of our data assets
  • Drive the practical implementation of the enterprise data model across specific business initiatives by defining data logic, transformation rules, and mapping standards
  • Collaborate directly with domains and functions to understand business goals, data challenges, and technical requirements, translating them into robust architectural blueprints
  • Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, flexible, and cost-efficient data lakehouse solutions on cloud platforms (e.g. GCP, AWS)
  • Define and validate architectural patterns for data flows (e.g. Batch, Streaming, CDC) and processing frameworks to support both operational reporting and advanced AI/ML workloads
  • Lead, develop, and engage a team of technical experts, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment

Reporting directly to the Director, Data Management & Analytics located in Bulgaria. The position will be based in MacGregor’s office in Sofia, Bulgaria. This hybrid role operates in a global context, requiring occasional travel and effective virtual collaboration across multiple business areas and regions.

What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you must be a value-centric problem solver who balances technical excellence with tangible business outcomes in a fast-paced, international environment. We are looking for a leader with a demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams and collaborate with senior leadership.

Ideally you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related fields
  • Extensive experience in data engineering or architecture, with a proven track record of designing scalable data solutions
  • Expert-level proficiency in data modelling practices (conceptual, logical, physical) including normalisation, OLAP / OLTP principles, and defining system mastery rules
  • Comprehensive understanding of Data Lakehouse architectures, ELT/ETL pipelines, and integration patterns (Batch, Streaming/CDC, APIs)
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python, and hands-on experience with modern engineering practices including CI/CD pipelines and version control
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices around data architecture and governance across both cloud and on-prem environments
  • Experience from industrial, maritime, engineering, or heavy-equipment environments is preferred
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
