Are you driven by problem solving? Do you thrive working with complex and large equipment? Looking no further, MacGregor is looking to hire a Service Engineer with electrical, mechanical and hydraulic experience in the maritime industry. 


The purpose of this role is to execute service, repair and maintenance work, such as diagnostics and troubleshooting of hydraulic, electrical  and mechanical equipment on the MacGregor product range, in addition to 3rd party manufacturers.

 

As a Service Engineer, your day-to-day responsibilities will include upgrades, inspections, and preventive maintenance on MacGregor products, and equivalent equipment. In addition, you will provide advanced maintenance on hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and automation equipment. This is a position that requires travel to client sites, vessels or at shipyards worldwide. Our clients are primarily domestic but also spread across the globe, i.e. Europe, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and beyond. Therefore, flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential. This position is based in Hampton, Virginia.


More tasks and responsibilities

 

  • Advanced maintenance on hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and automation equipment
  • Supervise and perform service activities such as refurbishment, upgrades, inspections, preventative maintenance and corrective actions 
  • Stay up to date with relevant developments, routines, processes and news
  • Provide information and write reports as required 
  • Support sales activities such as follow-up on leads and quotes while at site, as agreed with sales responsible
  • Follow all site safety rules, agreed working practices and environmental requirements
  • Comply with all relevant safety and quality requirements according to MacGregor


This role is part of our Global Services Division. Reporting directly to the Operations Superintendent. 

What you'll need to succeed

Knowledge and understanding of electrical, mechanical and hydraulics are beneficial for this position. We are looking for a person who has previous experience with winches, cranes, and steering gear. Additionally a candidate that is able to work with computer systems professionally. As a person you must be customer-oriented as well as possess good communication and collaboration skills. You should be able to work independently under limited supervision, and have a desire to further develop yourself and the department. 


Ideally you have

 

  • High school diploma or above
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the maritime industry 
  • Valid Driver’s license, and ability to obtain Passport and TWIC 
  • Willingness to travel

Compensation data

Salary starts at $72,500 per year based on skills and experience.
